α- and γ-anisatin, also known as α- and γ-anisatin brassica, is a class of compounds containing xanthene structures that are widely used in food and medicine and have excellent biological activities such as anticancer, antioxidant, and antibacterial. Nowadays, there are three main types of invertins whose structures have been determined, α-, β-, and γ-invertins, which have the same parent triepoxide heteroanthrone structure, only the number of hydroxyl groups on the benzene ring substituted by methoxy differs. Because the content of β-anisatin in plants is extremely low, it is difficult to purify and several biological activities are inferior to α- and γ-anisatin. Therefore, there are relatively few research applications.
